Kevin joined The Freelon Group in 2003, rising from Project Architect to Associate and Associate Principal by 2007. He is a tireless advocate for architectural excellence, having contributed to many of Freelon’s award winning projects including the Harvey B. Gantt Center, the Central Regional Hospital, the Durham Health and Human Services Complex, and the School of Education building at North Carolina A&T State University.
As head of Freelon’s Technical Group, Kevin is responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of our practice which is critical to the firm’s melding of design excellence and technology. His commitment to the delivery of the highest quality documentation is unparalleled, yielding a distinguished portfolio of superbly articulated building projects. Kevin works closely with design team members, ensuring that each possesses the knowledge and skill necessary to deliver responsive solutions that serve the client’s specific needs.
Kevin has particular expertise in envelope design, with a keen sense for creating finely detailed, technically-assured building enclosures. He has led numerous Freelon teams in the delivery of energy efficient, high performance buildings and regularly lectures on the subject of sustainable design.
Over the course of his 16 year career, Kevin has been responsible for design team leadership, construction documentation, product specification and construction administration, including critical oversight of a range of construction activities from shop drawing review to final project close-out. Placing emphasis on both the general and specific aspects of architectural design, Kevin ensures that the client’s vision and goals are carried forward in every step of the building delivery process.
Kevin is a native of Georgia and earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Miami. Prior to joining Freelon, he spent 10 years practicing in Atlanta, GA and Washington DC. He is a LEED Accredited Professional, certified by the Construction Specification Institute, a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Society of College and University Planning.![]()
