RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC -- The Freelon Group has been chosen as the Architect for the Amistad Research Center expansion project at Tulane University in New Orleans.

The Amistad Research Center currently occupies 11,500 sq. ft. of the historic Tilton Memorial Hall, one of the three original structures on Tulane's campus. When the expansion is completed, Amistad will occupy the entire building and include new gallery and archive spaces. The restoration will return the entry rotunda with grand stairway to its original configuration.

Established in 1966, The Amistad Research Center was incorporated in 1969 as a nonprofit manuscripts library for historical research. It moved to Tulane University in 1987. Amistad's mission is to preserve original documents and provide resources for research on America's ethnic history, the African Diaspora, human relations, and civil rights.
The Freelon Group is a 54-person architectural firm founded by Philip G. Freelon, FAIA (Fellow, American Institute of Architects) in 1990. The firm provides services nation wide with offices in the Research Triangle Park and Charlotte, North Carolina.
